JEAN BARTHELEMY PROFILE

Jean Barthélemy, a graduate from HEC, France’s Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, also holds a M.S. from Carnegie-Mellon University.

After holding export and marketing positions with Skis Rossignol, Cartier and Lacoste, he trained under the European ETP in Japan from 1983, before managing two Tokyo subsidiaries of French luxury goods and fashion companies.

Back in Paris in January 1990, he joined a leading American executive search firm as principal in charge of Europe-Japan assignments, prior to returning to an operational position as International Director of Revillon Paris in January 1994.

In March 1996, Jean Barthélemy was appointed Counsellor at the French Embassy in Japan and Asia Representative of DATAR/Invest in France Network, in charge of Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong offices and served until March 2001, successfully expanding inward investment from Asia.

He then started his own advisory activity in Tokyo, which he incorporated as JEAN BARTHELEMY CONSULTANCY K.K. in June 2002, focusing on market entry support, corporate and institutional representation, transition management and enhancing business partnerships between Europe and Japan.

He represented Lyon’s Economic Development Agency from 2002 to 2006 while serving as board member for Cartesis, Radiall and Legris. In 2003, he launched the Japanese subsidiary of the Rossignol Group, serving from 2008 to 2018 as Representative Director, prior to establishing the Japanese entity of Babolat. He also helped the French Post register as a supplier of Japan Post, winning and managing six tenders for the printing of special edition stamps.

He is currently a Representative Director of Embryolisse Japan, Mathon Japan and Medasys Japan. A regular guest lecturer at seminars for executives, he chairs the Board of Trustees of the Pasteur Institute’s Foundation in Japan.
